Using Subscription Databases:  

 

All databases can be found at http://pettuslibrary.net.  (Click on “Access K-12 Databases”)

 

Setting Up an Account in Ebsco Student Research Center:

  1. Scroll to the middle of the page and find “Ebsco Student Research Center” in the bottom right corner of “Resources for Secondary”
  2. Login with the username “pettushs” and the password “eagles”
  3. Click on “Sign In” at the top.
  4. Click on “I’m a New User”
  5. Type in your FIRST name.
  6. Your username will be your initials and your birthday, without the year.  (For example, mine is tls220)
  7. The password for EVERYONE  is “eagles”
  8. The secret question EVERYONE should choose is “favorite pet” and EVERYONE should put “spot” as their answer.
  9. Clck on “submit” then “continue”

 

Searching in Ebsco Student Research Center:

 

  1. Click on “Advanced Search”
  2. In the first box, type the FIRST name of your Nobel winner, in the second box, type their LAST name.  In the third box, type the word “NOBEL”
  3. Leave all of the document types checked, and be sure “full text” is checked
  4. Once you find an article you might want to use, save it to your folder by clicking on “Add to Folder”
  5. When you come back to print the article, be sure to click on the correct citation format, which for this assignment is “APA”

 

 

 

 

 

Setting up Your Account in  Britannica Online:

  1. Scroll to the middle of the page and find
  2. Login with “pettushs” and “eagles”
  3. Click on “Workspace”
  4. Type in your FULL NAME
  5. For your password, use your initials and your birthday, with no year
  6. Click on “OK”
  7. Rename your project “Staples Research”
  8. Click on “Home”

 

Searching in Britannica Online:

 

  1. Be sure you’re on the home page for Britannica.
  2. In the search box, type your Nobel winner’s name, last name first, and click on “go”
  3. Click on the title of your article
  4. Click on “Save to Workspace”
  5. From the drop-down menu, select “Staples Research” and “Save”
  6. When you are ready to retrieve your article, click on “Workspace”  You may be asked for your login information from earlier.

 

Searching in Facts on File

 

  1. Go to http://pettuslibrary.net and click on “Access Facts on File”
  2. Login with the username “pettusisd” and the password “eagles”
  3. Scroll down and click on “Science Online”
  4. In the “Basic Search” box, type in your Nobel winner’s name, last name first, then click on “Search”
  5. If you find an article you want to use, click on “Folder Login”  Use the email address:  pettusresearch@gmail.com  and the password “eagles”
  6. One you have logged in, click on “Save to Folder” to the right of your article.
